Description
The Canine Diarrhea Plus Panel looks for common causes of gastroenteritis in dogs. The presence of bacterial pathogens, including Salmonella, Yersinia enterocolitica, Campylobacter spp., and clostridial infections are assessed using varying methods (see list below). If enteropathogenic forms of E. coli are suspected please indicate on the history E. coli is a concern as this is not routinely done for small animals. The significance of the E.coli is then determined using a Virulence Genotyping PCR for an additional fee.
The presence of parasitic pathogens, including protozoa and helminths, are assessed using the Giardia Snap Test and Fecal Flotation.
If clostridial infection are not suspected please see the Canine Diarrhea Panel.
This panel does not include tests for other causes of gastroenteritis in dogs such as viruses (canine parvovirus, coronavirus, others), fungi and algae. However, the laboratory will assist with additional testing as needed.
Tests included in this panel:
- Enteric Aerobic Culture
- Campylobacter Culture
- Giardia Antigen Test
- Fecal Float
- Clostridium perfringens Culture
- Clostridium perfringens toxin genotyping PCR
- Clostridioides difficile Culture
- Clostridioides difficile toxin assay by neutralization
Please note, when ordering this panel we cannot discount the cost of Clostridium perfringens toxin genotyping PCR if no Clostridium perfringens was isolated.
