Description
The Feline Diarrhea Panel looks for common causes of gastroenteritis in cats. The presence of bacterial pathogens, including Salmonella, Yersinia enterocolitia, and Campylobacter spp. are assessed using the Enteric Aerobic Culture and Campylobacter Culture respectively. If enteropathogenic forms of E. coli are suspected please indicate on the history E. coli is a concern as this is not routinely done for small animals. The significance of the E.coli is then determined using a Virulence Genotyping PCR for an additional fee.
The presence of parasitic pathogens, including protozoa and helminths, are assessed using the Giardia Snap Test, and Fecal Flotation.
This panel does not include tests for other causes of gastroenteritis in cats such as viruses (feline enteric coronavirus, others), fungi and algae. However, the laboratory will assist with additional testing as needed.
