Description
The Equine Diarrhea Plus Panel looks for common causes of gastroenteritis in horses. The presence of bacterial pathogens, including Salmonella and clostridial infections are assessed using varying methods (see list below). Rhodococcus equi will be assessed in foals.
The presence of parasitic pathogens, including protozoa and helminths, are assessed using Fecal Flotation.
This panel does not include tests for other causes of gastroenteritis in horses such as viruses (rotavirus, coronavirus, others), fungi and algae. However, the laboratory will assist with additional testing as needed.

- Enteric Aerobic Culture
- Fecal Float
- Clostridium perfringens Culture
- Clostridium perfringens toxin genotyping PCR
- Clostridioides difficile Culture
- Clostridioides difficile toxin assay by neutralization
Please note, when ordering this panel we cannot discount the cost of Clostridium perfringens toxin genotyping PCR if no Clostridium perfringens was isolated.
