Special Instructions
Amies and Liquid Stuart transport media are not suitable for anaerobic culture, despite what their labeling may suggest. These media are primarily designed for human clinical use, where specimens are processed promptly with minimal time between collection and testing. As a result, they do not reliably preserve strict, obligate anaerobes during transport.
For anaerobic cultures, dedicated obligate anaerobic transport media must be used to maintain organism viability and ensure accurate results.
Specimen should be aseptically collected to limit bacterial contamination. After collection, specimen should be refrigerated promptly after collection to prevent overgrowth.

Please note specimens are not routinely pooled for culture unless specifically requested.
