Description
This test is for the gross morphologic identification of internal and external parasites of domestic and wild animals. For identification of gastrointestinal parasite ova/cysts/oocysts from fecal samples, refer to Parasitology - Fecal Float

In many cases, additional diagnostics must be performed to identify parasites. Ancillary testing, such as PCR and/or histology are not included and may be recommended at an additional cost for identification.

Specimens Required
Skin Scrapings
  • Samples should be submitted on slides with sealed coverslips or in leak-proof containers with 70% isopropyl alcohol

  • Helminths, adult or immature, should be placed in a leak-proof container with 10% formalin or 70% isopropyl alcohol (preferred)
  • External parasites should be submitted in 70% isopropyl alcohol
