Description
For whole cadavers or heads submitted for Rabies testing, a sample processing fee of $50 is charged for brain removal.

WADDL offers rabies direct fluorescent antibody testing for animals associated with both human and non-human exposure submissions. For additional information please see our Rabies webpage.
Specimens Required
Samples may be an entire carcass, intact head, or dissected brain tissue. Dissected brain tissue must include a complete cross section of the Brain stem and Cerebellum preferably or, if Cerebellum is unavailable, Brain stem and Hippocampus are acceptable. It is recommended to submit bats as an entire carcass. 
Sampling Requirements
WADDL policies do not allow for live animal submissions.

Collection Container
Sterile leak-proof container. Container should be triple bagged to reduce contamination.

Special Instructions
If Human exposure is suspected please contact your states department of health or local health jurisdiction before submission. WADDL cannot test human exposure submissions without prior approval. For non-human exposure rabies testing, brain collection from whole heads and cadavers will be charged an additional $50 sample processing fee.
