The Staphylococcus PBP2a methicillin resistance test is for the rapid identification of the gene mecA which encodes for methicillin resistance in coagulase-positive Staphylococcus sp. This test can be performed before antimicrobial sensitivity testing is available allowing for treatment guidance.
