Description
Detection of Salmonella spp. by real-time PCR.
This assay has a 1 working day turn-around time. Samples much reach the lab by 4:00 PM to guarantee results by the end of the next working day. For maximum sensitivity, samples are incubated overnight in enrichment broth before DNA extraction and PCR. PCR testing is performed Tuesday through Friday on samples submitted Monday through Thursday.
Specimens Required
- 1 g feces or 1 g fresh intestine
Sampling Requirements
Fresh samples provide the most accurate results. Testing multiple samples increases the likelihood of detecting intermittent shedding of Salmonella. If not shipping directly to the lab, store samples at refrigeration temperature until they are packaged for shipping. Samples must not be collected more than 5 days prior to expected delivery to the laboratory.

Packing Instructions
Label all samples. Store refrigerated. Ship overnight on cold packs in an insulated container.
