Pasteurella leukotoxin lktA PCR

Test Schedule
Lab Lab section Days Turnaround
WADDL - Pullman Molecular Diagnostics Mon-Fri 1-10 days
Price: $55.00
Description
Some strains of Mannheimia and Bibersteinia species possess the structural gene for Pasteurella leukotoxin lkta. Since leukotoxin production and secretion may be a virulence factor when conditions are favorable for disease development, identification of strains that possess the lktA gene may be helpful in evaluating the pathogenic potential of these Pasteurellaceae strains carried by wild and domestic animals. Pasteurella multocida is not known to possess the lkta gene, so P. multocida isolates will not be tested for lkta routinely.

Specimens Required
  • Tracheal or lower respiratory swab (plastic/synthetic swabs preferable. Do not submit swabs in agarose media or calcium alginate swabs, since those inhibit PCR)
  • 1-2mL Transtracheal wash (TTW)
  • 1 g fresh, frozen, or formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) lung tissue
  • Cultured Pasteurellaceae specimens in broth media or on plated media
  • Primary zones from blood agar culture plates of the inoculated with the samples above, or other agar media selective for Pasteurellaceae, such as CSA.
