Description
Detection of Orf virus (causative agent of contagious ecthyma) by real-time PCR.
Specimens Required
- 1 g fresh, frozen, or formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) scab or vesicular skin lesion
- Lesion swab (plastic/synthetic swabs preferable. Do not submit swabs in agarose media or calcium alginate swabs, since those inhibit PCR)
- Cell cultures or supernatants from cell cultures suspected as being infected with Orf virus
Sampling Requirements
Cell cultures, swabs, tissues: sealed, leak-proof plastic bag or container.
