Description
Detection of B. salamandrivorns (Chytrid fungus) by real-time PCR.
Specimens Required
Collecting post-metamorphic amphibian samples to test for Bd or Bsal by PCR:
Swab the animal to collect cells for testing (may pool up to 4 swabs into a tube if desired).
Using synthetic swabs, preferably fine tip (such as Advantage Bundling/Medical Wire Co Catalog #: MW113), gently swab ventral surface of skin 20-30 times.

- 5 passes of pelvic path
- 5 passes each side of ventral thighs
- 5 passes each foot of toe webbing
Cut or break swab so it fits in an empty screw-top tube. Air-dry for ~5 minutes. Close and label tube containing swab(s). May refrigerate up to 1 week. Freeze if storing longer than 1 week before submitting.
