Description
Virus isolation is a critical and widely utilized diagnostic method for identifying viral infections, including those linked to emerging, re-emerging, and novel viral pathogens. At WADDL, viruses are isolated and identified using cell culture originated from a broad range of species, such as bovine, equine, canine, feline, and porcine. This method is also applicable to viruses impacting a diverse array of terrestrial animals, reptiles, and various wildlife and exotic species. The turnaround time for testing depends on the virus's growth or replication characteristics and the specific identification techniques utilized.
Specimens Required
Blood, Tissue, Swabs
Sampling Requirements
The optimal sample type depends on the suspected virus and the infection's pathogenesis, including factors such as viremia (presence of the virus in the blood), target tissues (e.g., lung, intestine, etc.), and the patterns and duration of viral shedding in bodily secretions (e.g., nasal discharge, saliva, and/or feces).
