Unstained positively charged/adhesive slides are acceptable specimens. Minimum of 3 slides per test requested.
The test identifies desmin proteins (intermediate filaments present in muscle cells) in tissue sections using a monoclonal antibody. Test results are used in conjunction with histpathology to more definitively diagnose neoplasms of smooth or skeletal muscle origin, primarily rhabdomysarcoma and leiomyosarcoma.
