WADDL - Pullman Histopathology Mon-Fri 6
Price: $100.00
Description
Tissue samples collected by a veterinarian during a field necropsy are evaluated histologically for microscopic evidence of disease. Given the complexity of field necropsies and critical need of obtaining a diagnosis, histopathology on field necropsy cases is performed on a per animal basis. Histopathologic evaluation requires submission of formalin-fixed tissues. If field necropsy samples are submitted fresh and subsampling by a pathologist is required for histologic evaluation, an additional sample processing fee will be applied to the case.

Price is per animal, not per tissue.

Specimens Required
  • A full set of formalin fixed tissues, including brain, for histologic evaluation. Except for the brain, individual tissue samples should be no greater than 1 cm thick and placed into a leak-proof jar containing 10% buffered neutral formalin. Do not exceed a 10:1 formalin to tissue ratio.
  • If additional ancillary testing is necessary (bacterial culture, parasitology, etc), submission of appropriate fresh, unfixed samples in separate sterile containers is necessary.
  • If multiple whole organ systems (i.e., whole head, gastrointestinal tract, heart with lungs, etc..) are submitted, a WADDL necropsy and histopathology fee will be charged

Special Instructions
Legal fee: A $300 surcharge may apply to cases in which there may be legal action pending or that could lead to litigation. This may include, but is not limited to, cases involving allegations of animal neglect, abuse, malicious poisonings, or cruelty.

Spinal cord evaluation: A $60 surcharge will apply to field necropsies in which spinal cord evaluation is completed.

Shipment of formalin-fixed samples during subzero temperatures causes samples to freeze and typically renders the sample nondiagnostic. Addition of 1 part alcohol (ethanol, methanol, or isopropanol) to 9 parts formalin can help reduce freeze-thaw artifact if shipping samples during cold temperatures.
