Description
This fluorescent antibody test is designed to detect the presence of histotoxic clostridia, specifically Clostridium chauvoei, C. novyi / haemolyticum, and C. septicum. These histotoxic clostridia are commonly associated with gas gangrene and clostridia affecting the liver. The use of fluorescent antibodies allows for rapid identification of these clostridia.
Anaerobic culture should also be considered for the identification of other clostridia such as Clostridium perfringens.
