- BD BACTEC Peds Plus - recommended for small animals due to low inoculum volume. Note, this bottle is for aerobic organisms only.
- BD BACTEC Standard Aerobic - recommended for large animals
- BD BACTEC Standard Anaerobic - recommended for large animals & small animals

Special Instructions
Blood cultures include a Gram stain, aerobic and anaerobic blood culture when appropriate blood culture bottles are received.
WADDL now has an automated blood culture system, BD BACTEC FX40, that allows for faster cultivation and detection of positive blood cultures. For use of the automated blood culture system, BD BACTEC aerobic and anaerobic culture vials will need to be submitted.
It is recommended to include two collections from separate anatomic sites. Collection of multiple samples from separate sites helps differentiate true pathogens, which will be present in more than one blood culture, from skin flora contaminates that may associated with sample collection.
Joint and CSF fluid submitted in blood culture bottles will be charged for a blood culture.
Do not refrigerate blood culture bottles after inoculation.
