Description
Antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) is a valuable diagnostic tool used to help determine effective treatment options for bacterial infections. WADDL utilizes an aquatic‑specific antimicrobial susceptibility panel (minimum inhibitory concentration; MIC) that includes antibiotics commonly used to treat fish.
AST is performed in accordance with Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines and results are reviewed by a board‑certified veterinary bacteriologist. Due to the limited availability of aquatic‑specific clinical breakpoint interpretations for many aquatic bacterial pathogens, WADDL reports epidemiological cut‑off values (ECVs) when available to aid in the detection of potential resistance mechanisms.
