Description
The Aquatic Aerobic Culture is designed for the isolation and identification of aerobic bacterial pathogens affecting marine and freshwater fish. Because aquatic pathogens have specialized growth requirements, this assay utilizes a suite of selective and non‑selective media formulated specifically for the cultivation of bacteria associated with fish.
All cultures are incubated under temperature conditions that replicate the fish’s natural habitat. Accurate water temperature information is essential and must be provided at the time of sample submission. The incubation temperature directly influences pathogen recovery, growth rate, and overall culture sensitivity; incorrect or missing temperature information may compromise diagnostic accuracy.

Special Instructions
If specific pathogens are suspected, please include this information on the submission form. Identifying suspected pathogens enables us to perform a more targeted culture, which may require specialized media, specific incubation temperatures, or extended incubation periods to optimize pathogen recovery.
Ordering Instructions
For online test ordering please visit our Submit a Sample page for additional information.
To submit a specimen without submitting through our online portal please see our Forms page for fillable forms and further instruction.
