Description
In live birds blood feathers are preferred. It is also possible to test blood sample and a cloacal swab sample.
Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease causes feather malformations and immunosuppression in psittacines (budgies, parrots, etc). Molecular detection of PBFD by PCR is highly sensitive and specific for this virus.
Specimens Required
Blood feather*, whole blood*, skin, bursa, crop, liver.
Sampling Requirements
*Preferred source- Blood on FTA cards or non-coagulated blood in EDTA or heparin.
