Description
To detect Renibacterium salmoninarum (the causative agent of bacterial kidney disease [BKD] in salmonid fish) in tissue and/or ovarian fluid using fluorescent antibody testing.
Specimens Required
Fish kidney and/or ovarian fluid.
Sampling Requirements
Sample moribund fish preferentially; thereafter, select healthy fish randomly. Dead fish are not sampled (postmortem contamination). Sample brood stocks at spawning, and older fish preferentially.

Collection Container
Submit kidney tissues in Whirl-Pak bags or tubes with leak resistant caps. Ovarian fluid should be submitted in tubes with leak resistant caps.
Packing Instructions
Place sample bags/tubes in a sealed plastic bag to prevent moisture entry and sample-to-sample contamination. Ship chilled in an insulated cooler with ice packs.
