This test screens skin/mucous, gills, and fins from aquatic species for external parasites, including leeches, crustaceans, ciliates, flagellates, monogeneans, digenean trematodes, dinoflagellates, microsporidians, and myxozoans.

Fresh aquatic animal carcasses should be submitted in a leak-proof container and kept well-hydrated (okay to ship in water). 

Fresh aquatic animal carcasses should be packed in an insulated container and chilled. Live aquatic animals should be submitted with appropriate water and air, as well as insulation and cooling/heating, to ensure live arrival; note temperatures and weather at shipping and receiving locations when shipping live animals and do not ship during extreme weather. Please ship all samples for External Parasite Evaluation overnight to arrive on a weekday.

Order one test per fish. Please indicate which tissue types (skin/mucous, gills, and/or fins) and parasite types you are requesting screening for on your submission form. To submit specimens without submitting through our online portal, please fill out the Aquatic Health Accession Form and include with your submission.
